Small-space product selection
Micro NFC Tags
Compare small and compact NFC tags for products with limited installation space. Explore round, square, narrow and ring-shaped formats, then choose the chip and construction that match your reader and installation.
Start with the mini NFC tags below, including 5 mm and 6 mm round formats, a 7 × 7 mm square, a 4.7 × 11.5 mm rectangle and a ring with a 9.6 mm outside diameter. Open each product for its configuration details, or send your available space and reader requirements for a project discussion.
Small NFC tags to compare
Size is the starting point, not the whole specification. Two tags with the same diameter can use different chips or protocols. Compare the complete footprint and the listed configuration before choosing a product.

Compare compact NFC tags by size and shape
Choose a compact NFC tag by its complete footprint, not just its smallest dimension. For a circular recess, compare the diameter; for a narrow slot, check both width and length; for a ring-shaped space, include the central opening. Use the formats below to build a shortlist, then check chip, protocol and mounting requirements.
| Your space or requirement | Start by comparing | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| A 5 mm circular area | 5 mm NTAG216 and 5 mm ICODE SLIX-L | Both have a 5 mm listed diameter, but their chip and protocol differ. Specify the reader or phone and the required data operation. |
| A 6 mm circular area | 6 mm NTAG424 DNA and 6 mm ICODE SLIX-S | Identify the chip or authentication requirement first; matching dimensions do not make the configurations interchangeable. |
| A square or a narrow slot | 7 × 7 mm square or 4.7 × 11.5 mm rectangle | Allow for both dimensions. A tag that is narrower is not necessarily shorter or a better fit. |
| An installation with a central opening | 9.6 mm ring | The listed inner diameter is 6.2 mm. Compare the outer boundary, opening and available clearance with your drawing. |
Choose the configuration as well as the size
Match the intended interaction
Compare the chip and protocol shown for each product, including ISO/IEC 14443A and ISO 15693 options. Give us the exact phone or reader model, the data you need to read or write, and any chip requirement. Frequency alone is not a compatibility check.
Describe the finished assembly
Specify whether the tag will be attached, enclosed or embedded, and identify nearby metal and the final cover or housing. A tag’s size or substrate name does not establish that it is suitable for mounting on metal.
Test the intended setup
Agree the reading position, distance requirement and assembly conditions for your project. Evaluate the selected configuration with the intended reader and final installation before approving a production order.
NFC tag dimensions: size and space requirements
Check the full product outline, finished thickness and any central opening against your installation drawing. A “micro” or “mini” label is not a substitute for dimensions: the 5 mm round, 7 × 7 mm square and 4.7 × 11.5 mm rectangular formats shown here fit different spaces.
A suitable tag may use a different chip, shape or construction from these examples. Send your space drawing and application requirements rather than selecting a material first. For background on size and integration, see our small NFC tag size and integration guide.
Our existing tiny NFC format and installation overview describes further configuration options. Exact dimensions, on-metal construction and chip combinations should be agreed for the selected configuration.

Questions about mini NFC tag selection
Which is the smallest NFC tag in this selection?
The smallest round formats shown here have a listed diameter of 5 mm. The narrow rectangular format is 4.7 mm wide but 11.5 mm long. Compare the full footprint with your available area; a single dimension does not establish the best fit. This selection is not a claim to the smallest tag on the market.
Will every small NFC tag work with my phone or reader?
Do not choose on size alone. The entries use different chips and protocol listings. Provide the exact reader or phone model, intended operation and final mounting conditions so the selected configuration can be evaluated for that setup.
Can I use one of these tags on metal?
Do not assume that a small FPC or PCB tag is an on-metal tag. Specify the metal surface, available space and any cover or spacing in your assembly. Discuss a configuration for that installation and test it in place.
Discuss a micro NFC tag for your product
To help us compare suitable formats and prepare a configuration-specific quotation, include:
- Available length, width, thickness and any central opening, preferably with a drawing.
- Intended application, mounting surface and final enclosure.
- Reader or phone model, preferred chip or protocol, and required read/write operation.
- Encoding or data requirements, expected order quantity and sample or project timing.
Include a product link from the selection above if you already have a candidate.
